- CEMEX provided 130,000 cubic meters of concrete and innovative solutions for Punto Valle, a new commercial plaza in the Monterrey metropolitan area.
CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) (NYSE: CX) announced today its contribution of unique and innovative solutions for the development of Punto Valle, a next-generation shopping plaza located in the municipality of San Pedro Garza García, within the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Mexico.
Punto Valle boasts almost 300,000 square meters of available commercial space. Desarrollos Missouri (DM), the project’s builder, sought to protect the shopping center’s architectural design from its foundation: “During the rainy season, the hydrostatic pressure generated in the underground structure is high and can cause damage to the interior,” said Patricio Miguel Villarreal Guerra, representative for DM. “CEMEX supported us with a concrete design solution that integrates the protection and impermeability that we need to protect the foundations and the basements.”
Duramax technology, CEMEX´s brand of concretes designed to enhance durability, was adopted in the Punto Valle project. Duramax Self-Sealing is capable to self-seal cracks up to 0.4 millimeters in width, thus reducing construction costs, and prolonging the life cycle of the structure. “In the case of Punto Valle, the mix design, combined with use of a unique additive technology, lead to a significant reduction in permeability of the work – the concrete adapts to the conditions without any human intervention,” said Luis Franco, Vice President of Builder Sales for CEMEX Mexico.
For the project’s required supply of 130,000 cubic meters of concrete, CEMEX designed a plan that facilitated work on a site with complicated access and difficult product placement with direct draft: integrating four pumping lines and 500 linear meters of dedicated pipeline to supply concrete 24 hours a day with 100 trips per day utilizing revolving trucks for massive castings and dedicating three ready-mix concrete plants.
“At all times, CEMEX support was key to meeting our goals and creating this space, designed for our visitors to enjoy unique experiences,” added Patricio Miguel Villarreal Guerra.
CEMEX's cement and concrete technology centers are part of the collaborative research and development network led by CEMEX Research Group AG, headquartered in Switzerland.
