CEMEX Quarries in Israel Recognized for Sustainability Practices - CEMEX Quarries in Israel Recognized for Sustainability Practices
Press Releases
CEMEX quarries in Israel have earned consistent recognition from a prestigious local non-profit organization for their responsible care of the local environment.
In 1968, Aura Herzog, the widow of former Israeli President Chaim Herzog, formed the Council for a Beautiful Israel (CBI), established by senate vote. CBI is a non-profit organization focused on the country´s urban centers. According to CBI, their activities are driven by the principle that “each citizen needs to take responsibility and initiative in caring for the environment, both for themselves and for future generations.”
This is a mission that CEMEX takes to heart throughout our operations around the world, and in Israel, these efforts have earned recognition. CEMEX has participated in the industrial category of CBI’s yearly “Beauty & Sustainable Industry in a Beautiful Israel” competition since 2010. In 2015, three of our quarries took part in the competition, and all three were honored.
The CEMEX Modi'im Quarry has won five stars every year since 2010, its first year of competition. In 2014, it also won a “Beauty Banner,” which is granted after winning five stars for five consecutive years. The CEMEX Golani Quarry won its first beauty banner last year, and the Kadarim Quarry began competing in 2014, winning five stars in 2015.
The candidates are judged according to five different criteria: the external appearance of the quarry; the interior of the plant; safety; a sustainable approach and contribution to the community; and the employees’ welfare. Elements like access for the disabled, gardens and greenery, equipment for noise and dust prevention, energy-saving lighting and air conditioning, as well as water management and control systems, helped these CEMEX quarries garner their stars.
CEMEX works diligently to responsibly manage the land within and around our operations to protect biodiversity and maximize our contribution to nature conservation.
