CEMEX was the only company to receive awards in each of the four possible categories
The National Insurance Institute (INS) of Costa Rica is a governmental organization founded in 1924 that for the past 11 years has held the country´s most prestigious national event related to safety and occupational health. Every other year this organization brings together companies that excel in health and safety to grant the Preventico National Award for preventive management in occupational health.
In the XI edition of the Preventico national award, CEMEX was recognized in each of the possible categories, the only company with that distinction.
"This is a recognition for all our collaborators who have put a lot of work and dedication towards building a strong culture of safety and health at CEMEX and in Costa Rica," said Alejandro Ramirez, CEMEX Country Director in Costa Rica. "I congratulate you and invite you to continue to work with passion to achieve our goal of zero accidents for life."
The Preventico award recognizes companies who develop management systems and innovative initiatives that seek to foster a culture in occupational health and thus show successful results, obtaining a low injury or accident rate and employees that enjoy excellent working conditions. The evaluation is performed by the INS, through the Department of Business Management in Occupational Health, and is verified through on-site audits to the companies.
According to Juan Andrés García Sancho, CEMEX Head of Corporate Safety in Costa Rica, CEMEX stood out for its innovative programs where employees are personally involved. "We have been pioneers in road safety," he says. "We have also managed to take our safety culture beyond the workplace - we have made an impact in schools, on families and in communities where we operate. Ours is not just a work culture but also a life culture."
CEMEX has participated in the last three editions of this award, and in the two previous occasions deserved a recognition in the bronze category. This year CEMEX received two gold awards in the categories "Best Practices in Road Safety Management" and "100% committed to prevention (Manager of the Year)” as well as two silver awards in the categories "Best Practices in Occupational Health & Safety" and "Corporate Companies with Improved Security Indicators."
