- Teruel is the airport with most aircraft grounded in Europe.
CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. ("CEMEX") (NYSE: CX) announced today that it has supplied the necessary cement and concrete for the Teruel Airport Platform (PLATA), the largest Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) airport in Europe.
This infrastructure project, located in Teruel, Aragon, Spain, currently covers 340 hectares and can simultaneously park more than 250 aircraft. CEMEX supplied approximately 30,000 tons of cement, required to produce 100,000 cubic meters of concrete to build two new hangars, the expansion of the parking platform, a runway of almost 3 kilometers, an industrial zone, terminals, among other facilities. CEMEX supplied the materials in different phases of the construction of the airport. The airport's current expansion phase requires approximately 40,000 additional cubic meters of concrete, allocated to various facility components.
"Since the beginning of the Teruel Airport project more than a decade ago, CEMEX has been present in its construction and continuous expansion. We are proud to have contributed to this infrastructure, becoming an engine of economic recovery," said Sergio Menéndez, President of CEMEX Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
"Strong infrastructure growth is foreseen in the 2020-23 strategic plan with investments of more than 30 million euros in new hangars, platform, field pavements, and logistics warehouses. These facilities require a relevant use of concrete in our ongoing works and those that we are projecting," said Alejandro Ibrahim, General Director of Teruel Airport.
